Men, Women Open 2018 Season with 2nd-Place Team Finishes at Wooster Quad

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's and women's track & field programs kicked off the 2018 indoor season at the annual Wooster Quad Meet hosted at the Scot Center, as the Fighting Scots came away with respective second-place finishes in the four-team competition on Saturday afternoon.

Each side finished second to Ohio Wesleyan University, which took the men's competition with 128 points and the women's with 135 points. The Scot men totaled 91 points while the women finished with 71 points.

Junior Julia Higgins took part in three events on Saturday at the Wooster Quad Meet, including the open 400 (shown above).

Four first-place claims powered the men's strong showing, including a winning time in the 4x400-meter relay, as junior Myles Parker, junior Brian Lief, sophomore Aedan Pettit, and junior Jack Petrecca claimed top honors in 3:40.95.

Petrecca took home an individual first-place prize in the high jump, winning at a height of 6 feet, 4.25 inches to go along with a runner-up showing in the open 400 meters (53.83).

Lief recorded Wooster's lone winning time in an individual running event, as the junior took home first place in the mile (4:37.46) in what was a one-two Wooster finish, with sophomore Aedan Pettit crossing at 4:40.63, just .13 seconds ahead of the third-place runner.

Senior Tom Helsel rounded out the Scot blue-ribbon honorees with a winning triple jump leap of 38 feet, 7.50 inches.

Wooster's runner-up finishes also included junior Jordan Dennis in the 60-meter hurdles (9.03) and junior Jackson Feinknopf in the 3,000 meters (9:25.26), while junior David Westcott (9:26.37) finished third in the 3K in addition to sophomore Spencer Wilson's third-place finish in the shot put (41 feet, 5.25 inches).

On the women's side, senior Elizabeth Obi won the triple jump (33 feet, 1.25 inches) and finished fourth in the high jump (5 feet, .25 inches). Continuing in the high jump, junior Carolyn Webster also finished at 5 feet, .25 inches, but finished in third place due to fewer scratches.

Junior Collier Summay came through in the women's 3K with a winning time of 12:41, while classmate Mallory Crane wrapped up Wooster's individual runner-up claims with a leap of 31 feet, 3 inches in the triple jump.

Additionally, senior Mackenzie Kellar finished third in the pole vault (9 feet, 4.25 inches) while first-year Christine Weber took third-place in the shot put (31 feet, 5.75 inches)

Closing out Saturday with a runner-up time in the 4x400 relay (4:22.63) were sophomore Regan Szalay, junior Julia Higgins, first-year Zoe Covey, and junior Emani Kelley.

Up next, Wooster hosts the Fighting Scots Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Scot Center.
