This Week's Outlook: The College of Wooster men's and women's track and field squads head to Crawfordsville, Ind. for the two-day 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships set to be contested at Wabash College on Friday and Saturday. Friday's action is slated for a noon start, while Saturday's events start at 10 a.m.

Ticket Information: Tickets for all sessions are $10 for adults and $6 for children (18-and-under). One-day passes are $5 for adults and $3 for children (18-and-under). NCAC students are admitted free of charge with a valid student ID card from one of the 10 NCAC institutions.

Junior Jordan Dennis lowered his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles to 8.83 last weekend at the NCAC Multi-Event Championships.

Getting a Jump-Start at the Multi-Event Championships: Junior Carolyn Webster (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) finished as the NCAC's runner-up in the pentathlon by a tight five-point margin, and in doing so garnered her ninth-career (fifth indoor) all-conference certificate to lead the way for the Scots at last weekend's NCAC Multi-Events Championships held at Denison University. Webster, who upped her career-high in points in the pentathlon to 3,150, a total currently in the top-30 in Div. III, stood out in the high jump and shot put. Webster's 5 feet, 5.25 inches in the high jump was tops in the field, and is currently the 13th-best mark in the country. The junior logged a near-personal-best in the shot put as her mark of 30 feet, 7 inches was just of a career-best 31 feet, 3.5 inches. Classmate Jordan Dennis (Ellenwood, Ga./Arabia Mountain) placed fifth in the men's heptathlon.

A Look-Back at the 2017 Indoor NCAC Meet: Wooster's women finished in the middle of the pack with a fifth-place showing, while the men's team placed eighth at last year's NCAC Championships. The women's team made waves early in the meet with Webster winning the pentathlon with 3,098 points, and alumna Taryn Szalay (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) earning an all-conference certificate with a third-place point haul of 2,603 points. Webster, the meet's high scorer on the women's side, also earned all-conference honors in the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, 5 inches. Sophomore Akwia Tilton (Southfield, Mich./Roeper School) leaped into All-NCAC honors, quite literately. In her first collegiate track & field meet, the two-sport student-athlete extended to 17 feet, 8 inches in the long jump to place second, and her best mark was four inches off of the school-record. On the men's side, junior Brian Lief (Shaker Hts., Ohio/Shaker Heights) returns from last year's distance medley relay, and that quartet missed out on All-NCAC honors by 52 hundreths of a second.

Jumps: The jumps represent the strongest area in terms of point potential for the Scots heading into the meet thanks to Webster's proven ability to score and vie for all-conference contention in high jump and long jump, and Tilton's presence should once again factor in heavily to the team's success with the conclusion of basketball season. Senior Elizabeth Obi (Solon, Ohio/Solon) holds the conference's second-best mark in the triple jump this season at 34 feet, 9 inches, and she's won the event three times this year, and placed sixth at the All-Ohio Championships. On the men's side, junior Jack Petrecca (Willowick, Ohio/North) boasts the top high jump clearance in the conference at 6 feet, 7 inches, and he captured first-place in the event at the All-Ohio Championships.

Sophomore Regan Szalay led off the Scots' 4x200 relay at the Fighting Scots Invitational, and that quartet turned in Wooster's top time (1:51.06) in the event on the winter.

Sprints/Hurdles/Relays: Wooster's jumpers, in particular Petrecca, Tilton, and Webster have a strong chance to contribute to the team score in the sprints with Petrecca in the 400 meters, Tilton in the 60 and 200 meters, and Webster in the hurdles. Another student-athlete to keep an eye on is rookie Drake Pence (Lexington, Ohio/East Knox), who has a seed time in the top 20 in the NCAC in the 60-meter dash at 7.36. Others to watch include Dennis and fellow juniors Justin Fox (Rochester, N.Y.), and Myles Parker (Marietta, Ga./South Cobb), who all could perhaps factor in during relay races as well. On the women's side, the Scots are also led by juniors who have the capability to contribute on relays as well, particularly Julia Higgins (Middleburg Hts., Ohio/Berea-Midpark), sophomore Regan Szalay (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth), and Erika Womack (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley).

Middle Distance: Lief projects to lead the Scots in the middle distances events, and he's coming off of a stellar showing at the NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where he was the league champ in the 800 meters. Lief and sophomore Aedan Pettit (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) both have times in the top 20 in the league this winter in the 800 meters, while Lief has posted the team's best time of the year in the mile at 4:37.46. On the women's side, sophomore Cobi Warstler (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and Emani Kelley (Santa Paula, Calif./Ventura) are the top two Scots in the middle distances events, and both have season-bests in the 800 meters under 2:34.

Distance: Junior David Westcott (Lake Forest, Ill./Millbrook (N.Y.)) anchors the Scots' distance runners, and he's in the top 10 in the NCAC in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:38.79. Classmate Jackson Feinknopf (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley), who like Westcott earned all-conference honors on the cross country course this past fall, is also in the top 15 in the event with a season-best showing of 16:09.61.

Throws: Sophomore Spencer Wilson (Huntsburg, Ohio/Hawken School) will be looking to build upon an all-conference showing in the discus at last May's outdoor conference championships, and he's appeared to have already peaked just in time for this week's meet. Less than two weeks ago, Wilson logged a new career-best of 46 feet, 4.75 inches in the weight throw, and his top shot put mark (42 feet, 9 inches) is in the top 15 in the NCAC. On the women's side the likes of first-year Christine Weber (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) and junior Kassady Murphy (Poland, Ohio/Columbiana) will be up against a plethora of talented throwers with major scoring potential from Oberlin College, among a host of other contenders.

Pole Vault: Wooster has the potential for strong representation in the scoring column in the pole vault this year. On the women's side, first-year Georgia Hopps-Weber (Berea, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) and senior Mackenzie Kellar (Albion, Mich./Western) both have top-seven showings heading into the meet at 10 feet, 6 inches and 9 feet, 10.5 inches respectively. On the men's side, senior Jacob Nowell (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) has emerged as a top contender, and his season best is 11 feet, 11.75 inches.
