Juniors Jack Petrecca and David Westcott won the high jump and 3,000-meter steeplechase respectively to lead the way for The College of Wooster track and field teams at its own Wooster Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Carl Munson Track. The Fighting Scots placed fifth on the men's side with 48 points, while the women's team's 53 points were the seventh-most among competing teams.

Westcott, who competed on Friday in less-than-ideal weather conditions, delivered a career-best showing in the steeplechase. Westcott's 9:55.35 was over two seconds faster than his 9:57.65 turned in at last year's Kenyon College Spring Invitational, and it was the best time in Friday's field by nearly 18 seconds.

Petrecca edged out the University of Mount Union's Tanner Slack in the high jump thanks to clearing 6 feet, 2 inches on his first try. The duo both cleared 6 feet, 3.25 inches on their first try, but couldn't get over the bar once upped to 6 feet, 4.25 inches.

On the track, Petrecca, junior Myles Parker, sophomore Aedan Pettit, and first-year Matt Olszewski teamed up to place fifth in the meet-capping 4x400 relay at 3:32.92, while individually, Petrecca's 52.53 in the 400 meters was the seventh-fastest time at the meet.

Over at the throws, sophomore Spencer Wilson emerged as a triple scorer. Wilson's top showing came in the discus where the 2017 all-conference honoree took fourth at 134 feet, 10 inches. Wilson added a sixth-place finish in the hammer (124 feet) and eighth-place finish in the shot put (42 feet, 4.25 inches) with the shot put marking an outdoor career-best.

Other men's performances to note include senior Tom Helsel's outdoor career-best in the triple jump (39 feet, 1.25 inches) and junior Jackson Feinknopf's 16:08.24 in the 5,000 meters, both of which were scoring efforts.

Sophomore Akwia Tilton anchored both of Wooster's runner-up relays.

Wooster's women's relays turned in a pair of runner-up honors to lead the way. Junior Julia Higgins, senior Mackenzie Kellar, junior Emani Kelley, and sophomore Akwia Tilton closed the meet with the runner-up time of 4:20.27 in the 4x400, while earlier on Saturday, junior Erika Womack, sophomore Korri Palmer, sophomore Emma Sullivan, and Tilton teamed up to cross at 51.34 in the 4x100.

Junior Carolyn Webster added a trio of third-place showings in her first action since competing at the 2018 NCAA Div. III Indoor National Championships earlier this month. Webster cleared 5 feet, 2.25 inches in the high jump, reached 17 feet, 5.5 inches in the long jump, and clocked in at 16.60 in the 100-meter hurdles.

First-year Georgia Hopps-Weber's third-place showing in the pole vault (10 feet) gave the women's team a sixth top-three finish of the meet, while senior Elizabeth Obi took fourth in the triple jump (34 feet, 2 inches) and fifth in the high jump (4 feet, 10.5 inches).

Tilton's fifth-place effort in the long jump (17 feet, 1.25 inches) and Higgins' eighth-place time of 1:11.84 in the 400-meter hurdles rounded out the scoring efforts.

Mount Union, which captured the men's indoor national championship this winter, ran away with the men's title with 274 points, while the Purple Raiders' women's team also finished first with 243 points.

Next, Wooster heads to Oberlin College to compete in the Bob Kahn Invitational on April 7, while several student-athletes will head to Muskingum University to compete in the All-Ohio decathlon and heptathlon.
