Junior Carolyn Webster's All-Ohio honor in the high jump led the way for The College of Wooster track & field teams at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio on Saturday. Wooster's women's team finished in 14th-place, while the men's team finished in 17th-place.
Webster cleared 5 feet, 3 inches on her final try at the height in the high jump, and finished in third-place. With the top-three showing, Webster collected her fifth-career All-Ohio certificate. Webster cleared her opening mark of 4 feet, 11 inches on her first try, and did likewise at 5 feet, 1 inch. The junior also scored in the long jump where her mark of 17 feet, 11 inches was good for a fourth-place showing.
Senior Julia Higgins' career-best time of 1:07.71 in the 400-meter hurdles was good for a scoring spot, and the Middleburg Hts., Ohio native took seventh in the event. Higgins was also part of a seventh-place relay, as Wooster's 4x400 that also featured junior Erika Womack, junior Emani Kelley, and senior Mackenzie Kellar capped the day with a 4:14.37.
Senior Elizabeth Obi rounded out the scorers. Obi's 34 feet, 4.25 inches in the triple jump ranked eighth.
On the men's side, Wooster's distance crew led the way with juniors Jackson Feinknopf and David Westcott logging sixth-place finishes. Feinknopf crossed the finish at 34:15.99 in the 10,000 meters, while Westcott's 9:43.31 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase marked a new career-best by over 12 seconds.
Wooster had several noteworthy performances rank just outside of the team scoring placements. One of those came at the end of the meet when junior Myles Parker, junior Jack Petrecca, sophomore Aedan Pettit, and first-year Matt Olszewski teamed up to turn in a 3:29.92 in the 4x400 relay, a time that ranked ninth in the field.
In the throws, sophomore Spencer Wilson upped his season-best in the discus to 136 feet, 11 inches, and that was also a ninth-place finish.
Sophomore Aedan Pettit turned in a strong time of 4:07.23 in the 1,500 meters to finish in 10th-place.
Ohio Wesleyan University led the field on the men's side with 116.5 points, while Oberlin College's women captured the All-Ohio championship with 124 points.
Next, Wooster turns its attention to the Kenyon College Classic. The meet is set for a noon start on Saturday, April 21.
