Junior Carolyn Webster's All-North Coast Athletic Conference effort in the long jump led the way for The College of Wooster track and field teams on the first day of the conference championships held at Allegheny College's Frank B. Fuhrer Field in Meadville, Pa. Wooster's women's team sits in fifth-place, while the men's team is in ninth-place.

Webster placed third in the long jump at 18 feet, 2.50 inches, a mark just shy of her career-best of 18 feet, 3.25 inches set at the 2017 All-Ohio Championships. The all-conference certificate marked the multi-event specialists' second of the meet, and she also qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles with the fifth-fastest time of 15.87.

Sophomore Akwia Tilton backed Webster up in the long jump with a sixth-place effort of 17 feet, 2.75 inches, a distance tied for her second-furthest during outdoor competitions.

On the men's side, David Westcott continued to lower his career-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and the junior led a trio of scoring efforts for the men with a fifth-place showing. Westcott crossed the finish line at 9:42.51, a shade better than his 9:43.31 at last month's All-Ohio Championships.

Wooster's other two scoring marks came in field events, where senior Jacob Nowell tied for seventh-place in the pole vault by clearing 11 feet, 5.75 inches on his second try. Sophomore Spencer Wilson extended to a season-best 141 feet, 11 inches in the hammer throw, good for an eighth-place showing. Wilson's mark was a tad shy of his career-best of 142 feet, 1 inch set at least year's conference championships.

On the women's side, senior Mackenzie Kellar placed sixth in the pole vault after clearing 9 feet, 9.25 inches. Like Webster, Kellar is primed for success come Saturday, as the senior's 2:25.48 was fast enough for a spot in the championship heat of the 800 meters.

The 800 meters proved to be the Scots' strongest running event of the day, as junior Emani Kelley will join Kellar in the championship race. Kelley's 2:24.24 was the fourth-fastest time in the preliminary heats.

Junior Brian Lief – the defending men's champion in the 800 meters – qualified fifth in the men's preliminary heats with a time of 1:58.14.

Junior Julia Higgins was the final Scot to advance out of the preliminary heats. The hurdles' specialist placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.82.

Ohio Wesleyan University carries an 18-point lead into Saturday over Oberlin College on the men's side, while the Yeowomen's 94 points comfortably leads the eight-team field.

Saturday's action is set to get underway at 10 a.m. (field events) and 2:15 p.m. (track events).
