Hargrave Earns All-NCAC Honor in Pentathlon

Daysia Hargrave, Wooster track & field GAMBIER, Ohio – Junior Daysia Hargrave earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors for the sixth time at this weekend's NCAC Combined Events Championship, which took place at Kenyon College. On the men's side, junior Vell Robinson scored in the heptathlon.

Hargrave's 2,993 points were third in the 11-competitor pentathlon field. The meet started great for Hargrave, with the junior winning the 60-meter hurdles, crossing a 9.05. The time marked a new NCAC pentathlon record. Hargrave was still in first following the high jump, thanks to taking second in the event at 4 feet, 11.75 inches. A long jump of 15 feet, 8.25 inches ranked third within the field. Hargrave's other showings were a shot put of 25 feet, 10 inches and an 800 meters time of 2:41.28.

Robinson held off Wabash College's Owen Smith for the final heptathlon scoring spot 3,592-3,574. Pole vault is where Robinson solidified the scoring position. The junior cleared 12 feet, 2.75 inches to net 543 points in the competition. Smith bowed out at 8 feet, 3.5 inches, which only resulted in 248 points. Robinson started strong in the heptathlon, ranking second in the field in the long jump (20 feet, 4.5 inches) and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (7.47). Other top-seven placements in events included the high jump (5 feet, 3.25 inches)

Oberlin College's Hayden Hill won the pentathlon with 3,139 points. Denison University's Jaccob Brown scored 4,895 points to win the heptathlon.

Next, Wooster competes at the NCAC Championships, held Feb. 23-24 at Kenyon.
