Scots Tripped Up by Albion After Long Layoff

Playing in its first game in over a week, The College of Wooster women's basketball team got off to a slow start against Albion College and eventually fell 73-41 Monday evening at Albion, Mich.

The Scots (1-7), who were off last week for final exams, were within 16-9 in the early goings, but the Britons (5-5) then went on a 20-4 scoring run late in the first half to build an insurmountable 36-13 cushion that they rode to victory.

Trailing 44-18 at half time, Sarah Abboud and Samantha Sulzer combined for eight unanswered points coming out of the break to cut the deficit to 44-26, but that was as close as Wooster got to getting back into the game.

One issue was foul trouble, as Jessica Wingen and Suvi Puripattarapan each had four fouls early in the second half. The Scots also coughed the ball up 31 times.

Sulzer paced the squad with 12 points, while Abboud added 10, and Mallory Band scored a career-high seven points on 3-for-4 shooting from the field. Also noteworthy, Ashley Lindemann added six points and seven rebounds.

Albion was led by Nicole Dennis, who scored 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting.

The Scots will be back in action in less than 24 hours when they visit Trine University tomorrow for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
