Scots' 19-0 Scoring Run Highlights 62-39 Win Over Caltech

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster had 11 different players get into the scoring column in its 62-39 victory over California Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon, with six contributing to a 19-0 scoring run during the first half that gave the Scots the cushion they used to notch the win.

Playing in their third game in five days, the Scots (5-4) went up 12-7 early on, only to see the Beavers (1-8) tie the game at 16-16 midway through the first half. Moments later, Suvi Puripattarapan slashed to the rim for a lay-up that put Wooster back in front, and also kick-started a dominant stretch which saw the Scots score 19 unanswered points in just over six minutes of play.

Highlighting the scoring run were 3-pointers from Karley Walker and Rachel Huxhold, and later Lauren Hancher made a steal and took it coast-to-coast which gave Wooster a commanding 35-16 advantage.

The Scots increased their lead to as much as 28 (60-32) with 6:02 remaining in regulation, which turned the game's final minutes into a formality. Several players came off the bench for Wooster to log their most substantial play time of the season, including Rozalyn Gordon, who pulled down four rebounds and made a basket in just six minutes.

Overall, Wooster held an opponent under 40 points for the first time in three years. The Scots limited Caltech to just 28.8 percent shooting (15-for-52) from the field and outrebounded them by 11 (49-38).

Jessica Wingen had a strong outing, as she led all scorers with 18 points, which mostly came in the first half (14 points). Walker added nine points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Hancher also chipped in nine tallies, along with four steals and three assists. Also noteworthy, 5-2 Puripattarapan pulled down eight boards.

Wooster will be off for the next eight days before continuing its season Dec. 28-29 at the Geneva Classic in Beaver Falls, Pa.
