Scots Come Up Short to Oberlin in High-Scoring Affair

The College of Wooster and Oberlin College both played well offensively Friday evening, as the two teams combined for 157 points, the most in their last 18 meetings, but ultimately it was the Yeowomen who prevailed by an 86-71 count in a North Coast Athletic Conference tilt at Oberlin, Ohio.

The Fighting Scots (5-5, 0-2 NCAC) shot lights out early on, as they started the game 7-for-9 from the field, including a 3-pointer from Maura Hall which tied the game at 13-13, and then a 3-pointer from Sydney Grier that put Wooster ahead by three (16-13) about six minutes into the action.

The Yeowomen (6-5, 1-1 NCAC) regained the lead momentarily at 17-16, but Hall scored a lay-up on Wooster's very next possession to give the Scots an 18-17 advantage.

That was the last time Wooster led, though, as despite a solid offensive performance, Oberlin went on to shoot 50.8 percent from the field (33-of-65), a clip the Scots just couldn't keep pace with.

Wooster trailed by just four early in the second half (45-41), but the Yeowomen steadily pulled away behind a career-night from Lillian Jahan, who filled the stat sheet with 27 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

Things got interesting during the middle parts of the second half, as the Scots compiled an 11-5 scoring run that was capped by a Rachel Collins' 3-pointer, which drew them within 12 at 69-57, but an ensuing 9-1 run by Oberlin was enough to keep Wooster at bay for good.

Lauren Hancher led the Scots in scoring for a third straight game with 19 points, while Hall chipped in 18 to go along with six rebounds.

Also noteworthy, Suvi Puripattarapan scored a season-high 10 points on an efficient 4-for-5 shooting, while Karley Walker tied a career-high with eight rebounds, giving her 15 over her last two games.

Wooster will be right back on the court tomorrow when it hosts Denison University (10-2, 2-1 NCAC) at 5:30 p.m.
