Baldwin Wallace Upends Scots in Nan Nichols Classic Finale

Maria Janasko

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's basketball posted its first loss of the season with an 82-47 defeat to Baldwin Wallace University as part of the conclusion to the 22nd annual Nan Nichols Classic at Timken Gymnasium.

Junior Anna Gibbs led all Fighting Scots (2-1) with nine points on 12 shots. Junior Kyle Croxton, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, and first-year Maria Janasko followed with eight points each. Croxton ended the two-game weekend with 20 total points and five steals.

Against Baldwin Wallace (3-0), the Fighting Scots were limited to 21 percent shooting from the floor while the Yellow Jackets capitalized on a 21-11 second period to pull away after being up 14-9 at the end of the first.

Baldwin Wallace was led by Rachel Womeldorf's 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Hannah Fecht was named Tournament MVP while teammate Katie Smith earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Fecht, who dropped 20 points and 11 boards against Hanover College on Saturday, followed up with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from deep.

Wooster first-year Jena Copley recorded a game-high two blocks while senior Aki Shurelds tallied a game-high three steals. Strong three-point shooting, which guided Wooster to a 73-68 win over Alma College, did not lend itself against the Yellow Jackets, who held the Scots to 1-of-18 from beyond the arc.

Other members of the All-Tournament Team included Hanover's Allison Nash and Alma's Chloee King.

Up next, Wooster hosts Penn State-Behrend (0-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at Timken Gymnasium.
