GRANVILLE, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's basketball performed more consistently in game two against Denison University in a 57-46 loss on Saturday.

The Scots avoided the early struggles and competed within single digits for the majority of the game. They trailed by one at the end of the first quarter and 30-26 at halftime.

Denison grew their lead to seven by the end of the third before Wooster went cold from the floor (1-of-13) in the fourth.

Senior Maria Janasko once again led the Scots with her second double-double, finishing with a game-high 15 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Jenna Stanton connected on some good looks, hitting two 3-pointers and finishing with 11 points.

First-year Alyssa Chritz continued to impress with nine points, eight rebounds and four steals. The three totaled all points for the starters.

First-year Harley Holloway led with five of the team's 11 bench points. Wooster shot 29 percent (17-of-59) from the floor and from 3-point range (4-of-14). They were also 8-of-14 (57 percent) from the foul line.

Denison big Mikaila Carpenter led the Big Red with 12 points and nine rebounds. Wooster outrebounded the Big Red 50-47.

Wooster scored the first two points of the game before Denison scored the next eight. However, a time out from coach Nicole Marshall proved beneficial as the team went on a 6-0 run to tie the game back up. In that span, Janasko connected on a 3-point play, and Stanton hit her first 3-pointer of the game.

Wooster captured the lead again at 11-10 after a 3-pointer from Holloway. They saw their last lead in the second quarter at 15-14.

With the game knotted at 17, Denison would go on a 9-0 run that benefited from three successful 3-pointers. From there, Wooster rallied to cut the lead to two with a minute remaining in the half and trailed 30-26 at halftime.

Late in the third, Wooster cut an eight point lead to three thanks to scores from Stanton and Chritz, but Denison continued on to take a 46-39 lead after three quarters.

Both teams went cold in the fourth, combining for just four field goals. Denison's largest lead was 13, which came late in the quarter.

Turnovers also were an issue for the Scots. They turned the ball over 30 times, which led to 27 points off turnovers for Denison.

Denison is now 2-4, while Wooster drops to 0-2. The Scots return to action when they travel to Wittenberg on Friday.
