The College of Wooster women's basketball team played one of its best quarters of the year in a 62-55 losing effort to Wittenberg University on Saturday.

The Scots fought from a 16-point third quarter deficit and won the fourth quarter 25-16. Unfortunately, they were racing against the clock and couldn't complete the rally before time expired.

The three seniors, Sarah MarionMaria Janasko and Austrella Balley, tried their best to extend the game on their senior day, scoring 17 of the Scots' 25 fourth quarter points.

Janasko finished the game with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for the game's lone double-double. Marion connected on three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, while Balley scored all four of her points in the fourth. She also added six rebounds.

Junior Masani Francis added 13 points. Harley Holloway added five points and Krista English totaled four to round out scoring for Wooster.

Wittenberg was led by 19 points from Abigail Yunker and 18 points from Evie Wolshire. Kristie Kalis, who scored 28 the night before, finished with just 11.

Wooster for the second straight game won the second half. However, it was another slow first half that would doom the team.

Wittenberg got out to a 5-0 start, while Wooster was held scoreless until Francis scored with 5:09 left in the quarter. Wittenberg extended their lead to 20-9 after one.

Wittenberg stayed the course in the second, winning the quarter 15-9 to lead 35-18 at the half. Wooster won the third 12-11 before picking up the pace and having a successful final 10 minutes.

Wittenberg grew their lead to 19 with 4:19 remaining before Wooster scored the next five, which started a 15-3 run and included the game's final 10 points. Janasko scored seven in that span, and Marion scored six.

Wooster shot 36 percent (22-for-61) from the floor and 30 percent (6-for-20) from deep. They struggled from the charity stripe, shooting 36 percent (5-for-14).

The Tigers shot 41 percent (21-for-51) for the game, 30 percent (5-for-17) from 3-point range and 71 percent (15-for-21) from the foul line.

Both teams collected 38 rebounds. Wooster had 10 steals, three each from Janasko and Jenna Stanton.

Wooster drops to 0-4, while Wittenberg moves to .500 at 3-3. Wooster returns home Thursday when they take on Ohio Wesleyan University at 7 p.m.
