Senior Salute: Sarah Marion

Sarah Marion

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Sarah Marion, an education and psychology major from Granby, Massachusetts. Marion is a member of the women's basketball team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I was recruited by the basketball team and made the 10-hour drive to Wooster. Once I got to campus, I knew this would be my home for the next four years.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: It means representing The College of Wooster, my team, and myself. It also means I will always be tied to and have a forever family from The College of Wooster.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of my favorite memories are late night adventures with friends, traveling with my basketball team, and meeting so many people who have greatly impacted my life.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Being a part of something within the Wooster community. I have a group of people here who will constantly support me and be there for whatever I may need.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: An obvious person who has made an impact on me is Coach (Nicole) Marshall. I will forever be grateful for her. Cassidy Wertman is someone at the college who has made an impact on me and does not even know it. She is truly the most amazing human I've had the privilege of having in my life.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study looks at parental authority (authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful) and what kind of child attachment (secure, avoidant, ambivalent, and disorganized) that creates. Lastly, my I.S. looks at the combinations of those variables to see if there is a trend in academic achievement (high and low) in college students.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: We stay on campus and don't get the nice long break that non-winter sport athletes get during winter break. While we all can get home sick, I find that's when we all become the closest.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Be open to any person who crosses your path here at the College, since you will meet some truly amazing people who will become some of your best friends.
