Holloway Scores Career-High in Nan Nichols Opener

Harley Holloway The College of Wooster women's basketball team dropped its opening game in the Nan Nichols Classic on Saturday, falling to Spalding University 69-63.

Sophomore Harley Holloway scored a career-high 25 points, including 12 of the team's 14 points in the fourth quarter. She added six rebounds, three steals and one assist to her line.

The Scots opened the fourth with a slim 49-47 lead but lost the lead two minutes into the quarter after a 3-pointer from Kailey Reed.

From there, Wooster struggled to help the sophomore. Holloway was 4-for-6 in the quarter while the rest of the team went 1-for-9 and 0-for-5 from deep.

Wooster had momentum entering the fourth after a 16-8 third quarter gave them the lead after trailing by six at halftime. The Scots started the third on a 7-0 run with a pair of layups from Holloway and Krista English and a 3-pointer from Alyssa Chritz.

Senior Masani Francis finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

Francis had a highlight play in the second quarter after making and being fouled on a 3-pointer. She missed her ensuing free throw attempt but got her own rebound and scored a layup.

In four seconds, she turned a one point lead into six.

English was the only other Scot to finish with double digits in scoring. She had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Chritz's 13 rebounds was a game-and career-high for the sophomore.

Junior Paige Wells saw her first action on the year and scored Wooster's only eight bench points.

Reed led the Golden Eagles (1-3) with 14 points and a game-high five steals. Maleah Hirn and Natalie Fichter added 13 points each for Spalding.

Wooster (1-3) will wrap up the Nan Nichols Classic on Sunday when they take on Otterbein University at 4 p.m.

Otterbein defeated Hanover College 84-61 earlier on Saturday. In the day's other game, Westminster College defeated Carnegie Mellon University 69-66.

Action kicks off Noon on Sunday between Westminster and Hanover.
