Cold Shooting Night Leads to Opening Loss in Holiday Classic

Riley Thorr MARIETTA – The College of Wooster women's basketball team had a strong second quarter but struggled to find its shot in the other three in an 84-29 loss to Marietta College on Wednesday.

Wooster shot just 17 percent (10-of-59) from the floor and was 2-of-21 (10 percent) from deep. Sophomore Harley Holloway came off the bench to lead Wooster with 10 points.

Senior Krista English followed with six points. First-year Tamara Turner collected a team-high six rebounds in her second game played this season and scored her first points as a Scot with a 3-pointer.

Sophomore Carter Pepa also scored her first collegiate point with a free throw and saw her first minutes of the year.

Marietta distributed its scoring around as everyone scored. Kelly Levering was the only one to reach double figures with a game-high 11 points.

Marietta scored the first nine points of the game until Alyssa Chritz connected on a jumper. Marietta would take a 23-5 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter was a different story as Wooster found some momentum losing the quarter by just one point, 18-17. The Scots went on a 7-0 run with five points from Holloway with three minutes left in the half.

Unfortunately, that momentum didn't stick around for the second half as Wooster went 2-for-29 for the rest of the game.

Marietta (9-1) finished the game shooting 47 percent (34-of-73) from the floor and 37 percent (10-of-27) from deep. The outrebounded Wooster 61-36.

Wooster (3-8) will finish its run in the Marietta Holiday Classic on Thursday when they take on Bethany College. The Bison fell to Carnegie Mellon University on Wednesday 65-58.
