Stanton scores 15 as Scots fall to Tigers

Jenna Stanton SPRINGFIELD – The College of Wooster women's basketball team was back in action for the first time since Jan. 2 and traveled to Wittenberg University in an North Coast Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday and lost 84-46.

Senior Jenna Stanton scored a team high 15 points on 6-of-17 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Scots. Sophomore Harley Holloway scored eight points off the bench, and classmate Alyssa Chritz grabbed 11 rebounds.

Wittenberg (8-5, 2-2 NCAC) was led by a 22-point, 9-rebound performance from Kristie KallisJade Simpson pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.

Stanton scored a 3-pointer on a catch-and-shoot on the team's first possession to put Wooster ahead early. She scored six of Wooster's eight points in the quarter.

Wittenberg led by three after a jumper from Stanton with 3:32 left in the quarter. From there, Wittenberg expanded its lead to 17-8 by the end of the first.

Despite the Scots doubling its scoring in the second quarter, the Tigers caught fire, expanding its lead to 22 by halftime. Wittenberg shot 58 percent from the floor in the quarter and went 5-of-8 from 3-point range.

Holloway scored seven of her points in a row for the Scots as she helped trim Wittenberg's lead to 34-21 with 3:36 left. Wittenberg led 46-24 at halftime.

Wittenberg led by as many as 43 in the second half.  First-year Kay Robinson hit a pair of free throws in the fourth for her first points as a Fighting Scot.

Wooster (3-10, 2-3) shot just 22 percent (15-of-69), while the Tigers shot 43 percent (35-of-81) from the floor. Wittenberg outrebounded Wooster 60-35 and outscored Wooster in the paint 50-12.

Wooster travels to DePauw University (12-2, 5-0), the top team of the conference, next Saturday. Wooster fell in the first meeting this year 87-47.
