Scots Fall to Top Seeded Tigers to Open NCAC Tournament

Alyssa Chritz GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The College of Wooster women's basketball team bowed out of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday. The top seeded and nationally ranked DePauw University Tigers beat the eighth seeded Scots 72-54 in the first round.

Sophomores Harley Holloway and Alyssa Chritz each scored a game-high 16 points to lead Wooster. Chritz added 10 rebounds for the game's only double-double.

Holloway went 6-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Chritz came off the bench and went 6-of-12 from the court.

The 10th-ranked Tigers were led by senior Mya Shannon who scored 13 points. Grace Kinsey followed with 11.

The Scots took the game's first lead on the opening possession with a jumper from senior Masani Francis. DePauw tied it on the next trip down before Wooster scored the next five. Holloway connected on her first 3-pointer, and Francis scored on a layup.

DePauw then went on an 8-0 run before Paige Wells hit a fast break 3-pointer to tie the game at 10.

Wooster stayed competitive until the end of the first quarter as DePauw took an 22-15 lead. The Tigers opened the second quarter on a 7-1 run. Riley Thorr scored on a 3-pointer to close the half as DePauw led 42-26.

DePauw kept it on the Scots with a 25-14 third. However, Wooster came back with a 14-5 fourth quarter.

Chritz scored five points and grabbed six boards in the quarter. Wooster had its best run of the game in the quarter at 10.

Wooster shot 31 percent (21-of-68) from the floor, 29 percent (9-of-31) from range and 33 percent (3-of-9) from the foul line. DePauw shot 44 percent (26-of-59), 28 percent (5-of-18) from 3-point range and 94 percent (15-of-16) from the charity stripe.

DePauw outrebounded the Scots 52-31 and outscored them in the paint 38-14. 

The Tigers move to 23-2 overall. Wooster finishes the year at 4-22.
