Scots Again Open Strong in Losing Effort

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The College of Wooster women's basketball team led for the majority of the first half against The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Saturday, but once the Bobcats took the lead, they never looked back for a 70-58 victory.

Sidney McCully was the difference maker Saturday, putting up 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting for the Bobcats. Melina Maietta added 16 points, and Madison Scalese scored 14.

For Wooster, Harley Holloway led the way with 13 points on 5-of-17 shooting. Senior Paige Wells scored a season-high 11 points, while first-year Ella Biondi recorded a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double and added five blocks.

Classmate Erica Beaty was three points shy of her first double-double with seven points and 13 rebounds. The 13 rebounds tied for a game high.

Chloe Pordash added eight points, and in her first action of the season, Namara Rwakatare scored three points and pulled down three rebounds.

Wooster fell behind 6-2 but 3-pointers started to go down as Wells, Beaty and Holloway all scored from deep for Wooster to eventually take a 15-9 lead.

Wooster broke a 9-9 tie and went off on an 8-0 run and would lead 24-19 after the first quarter.

Pitt-Greensburg (1-6) retook the lead late in the second quarter. The game was tied with two minutes left in the half as Pitt-Greensburg buckled down to take the 38-34 lead at halftime.

Pitt-Greensburg slowly grew its lead in the second half, winning both quarters 16-12. They led by as many as 16 with 3:08 remaining in the game.

Wooster shot 38 percent (24-of-64) from the floor, 35 percent (8-of-23) from 3-point range and 29 percent (2-of-7) from the foul line. The Bobcats went 36 percent (26-of-73) from the court, 30 percent (5-of-17) from range and 62 percent (13-of-21) from the charity stripe.

The Scots were outrebounded 51-42 and outscored in the paint 36-24.

Wooster is now 1-6 on the year. Next, they travel to Heidelberg University on Wednesday.
