Rwakatare Named to CSC Academic All-District® Team

Namara Rwakatare, Wooster Basketball CSC Academic All-District® Release

The College of Wooster's Namara Rwakatare was among the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® honorees, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

The four-year women's basketball letterwinner has played in 44 career games. The senior's signature game came against Chatham University this season with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and eight rebounds.

The global and international studies major is assessing the CFA zone's impact on human development in Francophone Africa for the Independent Study project. Rwakatare spent the spring 2022 semester abroad in Cameroon through a program with Middlebury C.V. Schools Abroad. More recently, Rwakatare is creating profiles on the indigenous groups of sub-Saharan Africa and is assessing health issues and accessibility to healthcare services of indigenous groups in the region with the objective of identifying groups in need of healthcare services as a virtual Federal Service-Indian Health Service intern. Rwakatare followed up the study abroad experience with a month in Kenya, where the senior was the head coach of Mombasa Baptist High School's team.

On campus, Rwakatare is a senior intern with Admissions. There, Rwakatare facilitates discussions with prospective students to assess if they will be a good fit at the College, formulates reports for staff members with assessments of students' suitability, and shares knowledge about the College through admissions events. Elsewhere, Rwakatare works in Campus Access, assisting with printing student and employee identification cards and answering questions pertaining to access to facilities on campus. Rwakatare is also an RA and organizes programming events that allow for community building in assigned residence halls.

The projected three-time North Coast Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll qualifier holds several leadership positions on campus, including with the Wooster Women & Gender Minorites in Economics. The campus student group strategizes with faculty and staff advisors to develop meaningful ways to support minority groups and does outreach to alumni and community speakers to present to the group. Rwakatare has helped coordinate service trips through the Wooster Volunteer Network and previously held officer positions with the Black Student Association and the College's chapter of the NAACP.

Rwakatare is on the Academic All-America® ballot, which is voted on by CSC members in advance of the announcement of the Academic All-America® Team on March 15. Starting with the 2022-23 academic year, all eligible nominees submitted by member schools earn Academic All-District® status. Nominees were voted to the Academic All-District® Team in previous years and those winners advanced to the Academic All-America® ballot.
