Scots Still Seeking First NCAC Win

The College of Wooster women's basketball team played a solid three quarters against one of the top teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference on Saturday, falling to Denison University 75-42.

Wooster (5-14, 0-8 NCAC) was within single digits of every quarter aside from the second, where Denison (15-4, 6-2 NCAC) used a 27-5 run to take command of the game.

After just five minutes, Wooster held a 6-5 lead following a pair of made free throws from senior Alyssa Chritz. Chritz ended with a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds.

From there, Denison scored six points in a span of a minute to take an 11-6 lead and never looked back.

They led 13-8 after one before embarking on a game-best 11-0 scoring run in the second quarter.

Denison capitalized on its speed and height, scoring 10 fast break points, 10 second chance points and 42 points in the paint. They also scored 21 points off Wooster's 19 turnovers.

Denison's Brooke Toigo scored a game-high 27 points, shooting 9 of 15 from the floor and 3 of 5 from range.

Wooster sophomore Ella Biondi reached double figures in scoring with 10 and added four fouls. She was in foul trouble in the early goings of the contest.

First-year Ace Sturdivant scored nine points, while Melissa BurtscherAlexis Lovejoy and Chloe Pordash each scored two points.

Denison shot 44 percent (28 of 64) for the game compared to Wooster's 27 percent (12 of 46). Wooster hit 17 of 21 free throws (81 percent) but only connected on one 3-pointer.

The Scots travel to Hiram on Wednesday for another NCAC contest.
