In the second and final event of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship series, The College of Wooster women's golf team took third-place at the Hiram Invitational, and combined with last weekend's scores at the Wooster Invitational, the Fighting Scots finished third overall of six teams in this year's NCAC standings.

The Scots totaled a 407 on Saturday and a 412 on Sunday, giving them a total two-round score of 819. The NCAC's more established teams, Allegheny College (648) and Wittenberg University (696), finished well ahead of Wooster, but the Scots did rank comfortably in front of Hiram College (858), Denison University (859), and Ohio Wesleyan University (894).

Rainey Sullivan paced Wooster yet again with a 179 (90-89), which tied her for tenth-place overall individually, and earned her a spot on the All-NCAC Second Team. Next in line was two-time NCAC Player of the Week, Janet Zahorsky, who shot a 198 (96-102), followed by Joanie Jenkins at 217 (108-109), and Nichole Gustafson at 225 (113-112).

Allegheny's Hannah Schonau-Taylor was the event's individual medalist with a 158 (80-78), and was later honored as NCAC Player of the Year.

Winning the 2011 NCAC Championship was Allegheny (1318), followed by Wittenberg (1416), Wooster (1644), Denison (1706), Hiram (1767), and Ohio Wesleyan (1883).

Wooster's women's golf program made its debut in the fall, and likely surpassed expectations with its third-place finish in the conference. The Scots have a promising future, as four of their five regulars (Sullivan, Jenkins, Gustafson, and DaSol Kuen) were all freshmen this season.
