The College of Wooster women's golf team got the fall portion of its schedule underway over the weekend at the Denison Fall Invitational, as the Fighting Scots ranked in the top third of the 16-team field with a fifth-place finish over 36 holes at Granville, Ohio.

The Scots were solid on day one with a 345, but improved by eight strokes on the second day (337), on its way to carding a 682. To put the Scots' day-two performance in perspective, they joined Wittenberg University, which won the event with a 637, and third-place Bridgewater College (661), as the only three schools that had all five members of their lineup shoot a 90 or lower on Sunday.

Leading Wooster's charge was a strong trio at the top, as Sharmeen Chinoy (85-85) and Emily Howerton (85-84) shot identical 169's en route to 16th-place finishes among just over 100 golfers. Mallorey Stack was right there with them, placing 20th overall with a 170 (85-85).

Rounding out Wooster's scorers were Hannah Buzolits, who was seven strokes better on day two, helping her card a 175 (91-84), while newcomer Victoria Roney was consistent in her first collegiate action, shooting matching 90's to give her 180.

The Scots will be back at it next weekend when they compete at the Ohio Wesleyan University Fall Invitational at the Safari Golf Club in Powell, Ohio.
