The College of Wooster's women's golf team has been on a steady rise since its inaugural campaign in 2010-11, and its improvement was on display at this weekend's Pat Clause Invitational hosted by Wittenberg University, as it placed ninth at the highly-competitive event that featured three teams that finished last season ranked in the Golf World/Women's Golf Coaches Association NCAA Div. III top-25 poll and another from the others receiving votes category.

The Fighting Scots, who took 11th at this same event last year, shot a 364 on Saturday across the par-72, 5,809-yard Springfield Country Club, and a 356 on Sunday for a two-day score of 720. That was better than six other schools, including North Coast Athletic Conference programs Ohio Wesleyan University (773) and Hiram College (824).

Wooster's best rounds have typically come from Sharmeen Chinoy and Emily Howerton this season, but the Scots showed off their depth with a different leader today, as Hannah Buzolits carded a 176 (84-92) to pace the team and tie for 31st overall.

The rest of the Scots were bunched closely together, beginning with Howerton, who bounced back from an uncharacteristic opening round to shoot a 182 (98-84). Next in line were Victoria Roney with a 183 (93-90), Mallorey Stack with a 184 (94-90), and Chinoy with a 188 (93-95).

Wooster, which entered this weekend ranked 10th in the region according to Golfstat.com, will continue its season in the spring.
