The College of Wooster women's golf team was right in the thick of things at the 14-team Laura Bump Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday and Sunday, as it was tied for fifth after its opening round and then slipped just a bit to seventh-place on day two, which still put the Fighting Scots among the top half of teams in competition at the Mill Creek Golf Club in Ostrander, Ohio.

Wooster and North Coast Athletic Conference foe Denison University carded matching 141's in their opening rounds, which had them sharing fifth-place honors 18 holes in, and the Scots were nearly as good Sunday (345), although that minor dip caused them to miss the pace a bit, as they settled for seventh via a two-day, 36-hole score of 686.

Sharmeen Chinoy tied for the 12th-best opening round score (81), against a crowded field of 88 golfers, and then followed that up with Sunday's 85, to give her a share of 20th-place overall with a 166.

Just three strokes back was Emily Howerton at 169 (84-85), and then three strokes behind her was Hannah Buzolits, who improved significantly on day two for a 172 (89-83).

Rounding out Wooster's scorers were Mallorey Stack with a 179 (87-92) and Victoria Roney with a 190 (94-96).

Next weekend, the Scots host their own College of Wooster Spring Invitational at the Mohican Hills Golf Club.
