The College of Wooster women's golf team kicked off its 2015-16 campaign with a strong showing, as it finished fifth among 15 teams at Denison University's Lynn Schweizer Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at the par-71, 5798-yard Denison Golf Club at Granville.

With a 690 from consistent rounds of 644 and 646, Wooster was within four strokes of a top-three finish, or where host and rival Denison ended up (686). Nationally-ranked Wittenberg University won the event (619), while the Scots came in ahead of their other North Coast Athletic Conference foes, Allegheny College (707) and Ohio Wesleyan University (714), as well as eight more squads.

Individually, Sharmeen Chinoy got her senior season off to a solid start with back-to-back 83s and a ninth-place finish (166) out of 91 golfers. It marked the 17th top-10 showing of her standout career.

Hannah Buzolits was the Fighting Scots' second-leading scorer over the first 18 holes (85) and Mallorey Stack the second 18 (86). Overall, Buzolits tied for 19th (172) and Stack came in 25th (175).

Also scoring each day was Emily Howerton, who carded an 89 and an 88 en route to a 26th-place tie (177), while rounding out the starting five was Victoria Roney (98-91).

Next weekend, Wooster will look to defend its championship at the Ohio Wesleyan University Fall Invitational.
