Wooster Holds its Own Against Div. I IUPUI

 Hannah Buzolits

The College of Wooster women's golf team kicked off its spring slate with the first of three scheduled matches against Div. I programs on Thursday, and with a 357 score, the Fighting Scots finished just 37 strokes back of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis' round of 320 at the Wooster Hilton Head Collegiate held at the Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C.

Wooster in particular really pushed IUPUI on the back nine with the Jaguars finishing just 11 strokes better than the Scots.

Two of Wooster's starters scored in the 80s - Sharmeen Chinoy (83) and Hannah Buzolits (86). Both Scots turned in nine pars on the afternoon, including four over the first five holes, at the par-72 course that played 6,065 yards for the single-round tournament. Chinoy finished third overall, while Buzolits tied for sixth-place.

The rest of Wooster's lineup had a solid day as well with Emily Howerton, Victoria Roney, and Mallorey Stack all having three consecutive pars on their scorecards at some point of the round.

Howerton turned in a 92 on the day while Roney was right behind her with a 96. Stack carded a 101 for the round, including a five-stroke improvement on the back nine (48) from her front-nine score (53).

Jennie Blosser competed as an individual in the tournament, and turned in an 118 for the round.

The Jaguars' Aneta Abrahamova and Erin Ingram shared medalist honors at 75.

Wooster is slated to be back in action on Monday against Savannah State at the Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.
