Wooster Earns Runner-Up Honors at OWU’s Laura Bump Invitational

 Victoria Roney

The College of Wooster women's golf team turned in a stellar round of 338 to place second out of 16 teams - and first amongst Div. III programs - at the Ohio Wesleyan University Laura Bump Invitational held in frigid temperatures on Sunday at the par-72, 5,834-yard Mill Creek Golf Club in Ostrander, Ohio.

NAIA Madonna University carded a 323 to win the team title while the Crusaders' Ayla Bogie was the individual medalist at 77.

Wooster's 338 came in four strokes better than third-place Davenport University, and five shots lower than Denison University's 343.

Sophomore Victoria Roney led the way matching her collegiate low round with an 82 to tie for fifth. Roney was really impressive on the front-nine turning in a 39.

Senior Sharmeen Chinoy backed the sophomore up with an 84 and tied for 10th.

Notable, the tournament marked just the second time this year Wooster has placed two individuals in the top 10 (minimum four-team field). Coincidentally, the first occurrence was at OWU's Fall Invitational, a tournament won by the Fighting Scots back on Sept. 13.

Emily Howerton turned in an 85 for the day to tie for 13th. The junior turned in a 39 on the back-nine to highlight her round.

Hannah Buzolits shot an 87 to round out the team scoring and tied for 19th individually. The junior had nearly identical scores of 44 and 43 on the front- and back-nine respectively.

Mallorey Stack rounded out the lineup with a 95 to tie for 53rd, while Jennie Blosser competed as an individual and tied for 60th at 99.

Next, Wooster hosts its annual Spring Invitational April 16-17  at the Mohican Hills Golf Course. Action for Saturday is slated for an 11 a.m. start with tee times, while play on Sunday is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
