Wooster Places Third at OWU Fall Invitational

 Emily Howerton

Senior Emily Howerton was in contention for medalist honors, and The College of Wooster women's golf team was nine strokes off the lead as the Fighting Scots placed third at Sunday's Ohio Wesleyan University Fall Invitational.

Wooster, the two-time defending champion of the tournament, turned in a 341 on Sunday at the par-72, 5,823-yard Safari Golf Club at Powell, Ohio. Host Ohio Wesleyan led the seven-team field with a 332, with Otterbein University placing second at 338.

Howerton, last year's medalist at this event, was in the hunt again as her 81 placed the senior in a four-way tie for first. However, her putt on the first playoff hole came up inches short, knocking her out of the medalist tiebreaker.

Ohio Wesleyan's Alexis Reichardt topped Allegheny College's Kayla Orr for medalist honors on the second playoff hole.

Only four strokes separated the rest of Wooster's lineup.

Senior Mallorey Stack carded an 85 and tied for 11th, while freshman Kaci Carpenter shot an 87 and tied for 16th. Freshman Hannah Appleman and senior Hannah Buzolits both shot an 88 and tied for 17th.

Freshman Emily Stoehr competed as an individual and tied for 54th at 118.

Wooster returns to action at the Allegheny College Women's Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 25.
