Seniors Lead the Way for Wooster at Yellow Jacket Invitational

Hannah Buzolits

Senior Hannah Buzolits turned in The College of Wooster women's golf team's second top-five finish of the fall, and the Fighting Scots tied for third at the Yellow Jacket Invitational held this weekend at the par-71 5972-yard Grey Hawk Golf Course in LaGrange, Ohio.

Wooster posted similar rounds of 349 and 351 to finish at 700 strokes for the weekend, the same round-by-round totals as North Coast Athletic Conference rival Allegheny College. Denison University led the seven-team field at 644 while the University of Mount Union was second at 695.

Buzolits really stepped up on Sunday with a 79, tied for the fourth-lowest round by an individual of the weekend. That came on the heels of an 83 on Saturday, giving the senior a 162 for the weekend, a total good four fourth-place honors.

Classmates Mallorey Stack and Emily Howerton both turned in top-20 showings on the weekend. Stack's 36-hole 175 was carried by an 85 on Saturday, and she carded a 90 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 15th-place. Howerton turned in a 91 on Saturday, and bettered that score by three strokes on Sunday to finish at 179 and in a tie for 18th-place.

Freshmen Hannah Appleman and Kaci Carpenter rounded out the lineup on the weekend and posted similar results. Appleman turned in a 90 and a 95 on her card to finish in 24th-place at 185, while Carpenter turned in a 186 with scores of 92 and 94 to finish in 25th-place.

Wooster closes out its fall slate at its home tournament – the Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational – held at the Wooster Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9.
