Wooster Breaks Another Record as Scots Place Third at Own Spring Invite

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team turned in the lowest round in program history on Saturday before settling for third-place at the Wooster Spring Invitational held at the par-72, 5803-yard Mohican Hills Golf Club.

Wooster was the clubhouse leader with a 319 on Saturday, a cumulative total two strokes better than the 321 the Fighting Scots shot at the 2015 Ohio Wesleyan University Fall Invitational. Sunday's high winds caused the team scores to balloon for five of the six teams in the field, including Wooster, who finished at 662 for the tournament.

Senior Hannah Buzolits earned runner-up honors with a 160, and was two shots back of medalist Summer Kitahara from Carnegie Mellon University. Buzolits opened with a 76 on Saturday, headlined by an eagle on the par-5, 479-yard No. 2. On Sunday, Buzolits shot an 84, which tied for the low round on the team.

Classmate Emily Howerton turned in her second straight top-10 finish at traditional tournaments. The senior opened with an 82 and followed with an 84 to place ninth.

Junior Victoria Roney entered Sunday tied with Buzolits for the top spot in the individual leaderboard after a career-best 76 on Saturday. Roney tied for 13th-place at 169 for the 36-hole tournament.

Senior Mallorey Stack and first-year Hannah Appleman rounded out Wooster's lineup. Stack tied for 17th-place with a consistent weekend that featured an 85 followed by an 87, while Appleman placed 22nd with an 88 following on the heels of an opening-round 89.

First-years Kaci Carpenter and Emily Stoehr competed as individuals and turned in a 181 and 236 respectively for the weekend.

Carnegie Mellon led the six-team field with a 653, three strokes ahead of Denison University.

Next, Wooster competes in event one of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Series, contested at the Country Club of Meadville in Meadville, Pa. April 22-23.
