Historic Sunday Caps Banner Season for Wooster as Scots Place Fourth at NCACs

Emily Howerton
Hannah Buzolits

Senior Hannah Buzolits made program history by becoming The College of Wooster women's golf team's first-ever first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference performer, and the Fighting Scots had a program-record three student-athletes earn all-conference certificates as Wooster wrapped up the NCAC Championship Series in fourth-place with a 54-hole score of 1026 after Sunday's 357 at the Royal American Links in Galena, Ohio.

Buzolits placed fourth overall with a 242 during the three-round tournament as Saturday's weather forced the cancelation of a round of the championship series. Buzolits carded a team-best 85 on Sunday to become the first Scot to finish in the top 10 at the league's championship. Overall, the all-conference certificate marked the second of Buzolits' career as she tied for 11th-place with a 345 at the 2015 championships.

Senior Emily Howerton and junior Victoria Roney joined Buzolits on the all-conference squad, and Wooster's now had multiple all-conference honorees in each of the last three seasons.

Howerton, the first three-time all-conference recipient in program history, earned honorable mention status with a 260, a score that placed her in a tie for 16th-place. Howerton shot a 90 in the final round of the tournament after bringing a 170 into event two of the championship series. Howerton was also an honorable mention all-conference performer last year after earning a second-team certificate as a sophomore.

Roney earned all-conference honors for the first time, and she finished at 256 for the tournament after a 91 on Sunday. Roney also earned an honorable mention certificate as she tied for 14th-place.

First-year Hannah Appleman tied for 23rd-place at 271 after a 94 on Sunday, while senior Mallorey Stack had a 91 in her final collegiate round to finish at 276 and in 25th-place.

Wittenberg University captured its third-straight NCAC title after a 944 over the three rounds. DePauw University checked in at 980 to earn runner-up honors, while Denison University shot a 329 in the final round to finish at 1006. The Tigers' Macy Hubbard earned medalist honors at 222.
