The College of Wooster women's golf team continued its mastery of the Safari Golf Club as the Fighting Scots won the Ohio Wesleyan University Fall Invitational for the third time in the last four years on Sunday afternoon at Powell, Ohio. Wooster's two-day total of 659 ranked 35 strokes ahead of second-place Ohio Northern University.
Similar to the last time Wooster won the tournament in 2015, the Scots featured the top three scores in the field as first-year Tongtong Wu captured medalist honors at 162 with back-to-back 81s. Senior Victoria Roney and first-year Megan Gronau backed that up with matching 164s to tie for runner-up honors. Roney opened up with an 84 on Saturday, and climbed three spots up the leaderboard with her 80 on Sunday, and that score ranked as the low round in the tourney. Gronau opened with an 83, and followed up with an 81 over the final 18 holes of play.
Sophomores Hannah Appleman and Kaci Carpenter rounded on Wooster's lineup. Appleman tied for sixth-place at 169 after rounds of 85 and 84. Carpenter tied for 11th-place with her 88 Sunday marking a two-shot improvement from Saturday's round.
First-year Lilly Dunning led the Scots competing as individuals. Dunning placed fifth at 167 and her 82 in the opening round was one shot off of Wu's clubhouse lead after action on Saturday.
Of note, Wu is the fifth Scot to earn medalist honors in a tournament, and the first since alumna Hannah Buzolits did so at the 2016 Wooster Spring Invitational.
