The College of Wooster women's golf team opened its spring season against one of the nation's premier National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) teams, as fourth-ranked University of South Carolina Beaufort topped the Fighting Scots 304-373 on Tuesday afternoon at the Greg Norman-designed Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie, S.C.

First-year Tongtong Wu navigated the par-72, 5,833-yard course with a 90, and that marked Wooster's low round of the day. First-year Lilly Dunning and sophomore Kaci Carpenter weren't far behind Wu, as the duo turned in matching 93s.

First-years Megan Gronau (97) and Devon Matson (102) rounded out the Scots' top five.

Franzi Knoetsch earned medalist honors with a 73 for Beaufort, which placed third in the team standings at last year's NAIA Championships.

Worth noting, the Scots' round against the Sand Sharks took place on a course certified with the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf, an "award-winning education and certification program that helps golf course protect our environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf." One of the finest Norman-designed courses, Oldfield is renowned for its outstanding route through canopies of moss-draped live oaks, broad savannahs, and soaring pines up to the banks of the Okatie River.

Wooster faces a quick turnaround as the Scots are back in action on Wednesday against Amherst College, East Stroudsburg University and host Savannah State University at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.
