The College of Wooster women's golf team was red hot while competing in frigid temperatures over the weekend, as the Fighting Scots opened the northern portion of their spring slate with a third-place showing in the 11-team Laura Bump Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Mill Creek Golf Course in Ostrander, Ohio. Wooster's 676 trailed No. 19 Wittenberg University's 627 and Madonna University's 659.

First-year Tongtong Wu was superb with back-to-back 81s at the par-72, 5834-yard course to finish with a 9-over-par 162. Wu, who placed fifth, logged five straight pars on holes four through eight during Sunday's round, and had 11 pars over the final 18 holes.

Classmate Megan Gronau shot up 14 spots on the leaderboard, thanks to a nine-stroke improvement on Sunday. Gronau tied for 19th-place in the 80-player field at 169. Gronau also had a five-hole stretch of pars during Sunday's round. Gronau's par run spanned holes 12 through 16.

Sophomore Hannah Appleman gave the Scots a trio of placers in the top-25. Appleman delivered a strong opening-round score of 83, and was in the top-15 of the field before finishing in a tie for 25th-place at 175.

Senior Victoria Roney turned in a steady weekend with a pair of 88s. Roney tied for 28th-place with a 176. Her Sunday card included four straight pars spanning holes 13 through 16.

Sophomore Kaci Carpenter rounded out the Scots' lineup. Carpenter's efforts led to four student-athletes having at least a four-hole run of consecutive pars on Sunday. Carpenter's run started on the fifth hole. For the tournament, Carpenter tied for 30th-place with a 177.

First-year Lilly Dunning led a trio of Scots playing as individuals with a 191.

Noteworthy, Wooster's 335 on Sunday marked the Scots' third-lowest round of the year.

Wittenberg's Jane Hopkinson-Wood earned medalist honors with a 3-under-par 141.

Next, the Scots play host to 11 other teams for the Wooster Spring Invitational. The two-day tournament starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Mohican Hills Golf Club in Jeromesville, Ohio.
