Scots Place Fourth at NCAC Championships

MANSFIELD, Ohio – First-year Tongtong Wu led the Fighting Scots' Sunday round with a score of 85, as The College of Wooster women's golf team placed fourth overall at the three-day North Coast Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday afternoon at Westbrook Country Club.

As part of Wu's 85, the first-year posted a three-over 40 on the back nine of the 5,834-yard par-74 course. Wu pared five of the opening nine holes and turned the corner with back-to-back pars before shooting four consecutive bogies. The first-year ended strong, though, thanks to consecutive pars on No. 16 and No. 17 and a birdie on the 500-yard par-5 No. 18.

Wu finished at 267 on the weekend for 17th place overall, while first-year Megan Gronau posted a break-through showing with a team-low 265 on the weekend, good for 15th overall and an honorable mention all-conference certificate. Gronau turned in a 90 on Sunday, six shots back of her Saturday score. The first-year out of Livonia, Mich. never shot worse than a bogey on the front nine, but got tripped up with an eight on the par-4 No. 15.

Finishing in 18th overall was senior Victoria Roney, who matched her first-round 89 on Sunday for a four-shot improvement over Saturday's score. The veteran posted five pars on the day to finish one spot back of Wu with a 271.

Similarly, sophomore Hannah Appleman matched her opening-round 92 to claim 20th overall (279). The Pickerington, Ohio native shot identical 46s with five total pars. Classmate Kaci Carpenter, who opened the tournament with a team-low 86 on Friday, ended her round at an even 100 to claim 23rd overall (288).
