WGCA All-American Scholar Team Release

The College of Wooster women's golf team's duo of rising sophomores Devon Matson and Tongtong Wu were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team for their efforts in the classroom as first-years, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

Matson, a history major with a 3.66 GPA, averaged 97.9 strokes per round during her rookie season with the Fighting Scots. Matson's low round, 88, came in the opening round of the Franklin College Spring Invitational on April 21, and she went on to finish the 36-hole tournament at 186.

Wu, who sports a 3.54 GPA as an undeclared major, led the way for the Scots during the 2017-18 season. The Shenzhen, China native averaged 85.4 strokes per round, and was the medalist at the Ohio Wesleyan University Fall Invitational after carding a 162 for the 36-hole event. Overall, Wu turned in a quartet of top-five finishes as a rookie.

This year, 1,011 women's collegiate golfers were recognized. Requirements for the team include the program's coach holding membership with the organization and the student-athletes carrying at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
