Burtscher Among Wooster's Latest NCAC Athletes of the Week

Melissa Burtscher, Wooster Golf Sophomore Melissa Burtscher helped The College of Wooster women's golf team win the program's own Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational for the third straight time over the weekend, and the Fighting Scots' leading scorer's efforts resulted in North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors on Monday afternoon.

Burtscher's 167 (85-82) was the top score from NCAC competitors in the field, ranked second of 50, and was two strokes off medalist honors. Burtscher now has three top-five finishes this academic year.

In Saturday's round, Burtscher went 4-over-par on the back-nine of the par-72, 5,630-yard Wooster Country Club, thanks to birdies on the par-4, 335-yard No. 12 and the par-4, 341-yard No. 16. On Sunday, Burtscher's third birdie of the weekend came at the par-4, 346-yard sixth hole. The sophomore had 15 pars on the weekend, including 10 over the final 18 holes.

Wooster (361-361-722), which had a 17-stroke margin of victory, is off to John Carroll University's Invitational this weekend.
