Siewert Lowers Collegiate-Best at NCAC Preview

Ally Siewert, Wooster Golf MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team entered Sunday five strokes back of archrival Wittenberg University, but the Fighting Scots were unable to run down the Tigers at the North Coast Athletic Conference Preview, which took place at the par-72, 5,608-yard Chapel Hill Golf Course. Wooster and Wittenberg were the two scoring teams, with NCAC members Allegheny College, Denison University, Hiram College, and Ohio Wesleyan University just having individual entries in the field.

Sophomore Melissa Burtscher tied for third-place with a 164. The Scots' number one sank a birdie on the par-3, 152-yard eighth hole on Saturday, during which she shot an 84, which was sixth in the field. The sophomore's 80 on Sunday propelled her up to third-place. She moved to 2-over-par on the back-nine with a birdie on the par-4, 315-yard 13th hole and logged pars on three of the remaining five holes.

First-year Ally Siewert rode a collegiate-best 77 to a sixth-place finish on the weekend. Siewert logged a phenomenal back-nine on Saturday, playing it at 1-over-par, in part to a birdie on the par-4, 290-yard 11th hole. Siewert followed the birdie with six pars over the remaining seven holes. Siewert's strong closing stretch started on the front-nine with a birdie just before the turn on the par-4, 310-yard ninth hole.

Senior Kayla Audette was the third finisher among the Scots on the weekend. Her 185 ranked 11th in the field. Audette's 91 on Sunday marked a three-stroke improvement from Saturday, and the senior had a strong closing stretch with three straight pars on the back-nine.

Next was senior Meghan Wright, whose 189 was 12th at the event. Wright opened with a 90 and signed for a 99 on Sunday. Wright's big highlight was a birdie on hole 11 on Saturday.

Junior Riley Thorr (98-105-203) rounded out Wooster's lineup, while first-year Maddie Moran (105-102-207) competed as an individual. Thor placed 14th, and Moran was right behind in 15th-place.

Wittenberg shot a 342 on the weekend, while Wooster came in at 358. Individually, the Tigers' Ellen Frame cruised to a nine-stroke victory. The medalist shot a 154 on the weekend.

Next, Wooster is off to Westbrook Country Club for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, which run April 29-May 1.
