Scots Log Most Consistent Play Yet

Abby Haywood, Wooster Golf BEVERLY, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team posted the most consistent showing in program history, as the Fighting Scots' 632 at the Marietta College Pioneer Classic is the lowest 36-hole tournament score in program history. Wooster finished as the runner-up in the five-team field.

Both of Wooster's rounds on the weekend ranked within the top-five in program history as of the conclusion of the round. Wooster's Saturday 317 marked the program's fifth-best round, then the Scots went out and fired a 315 on Sunday for the third-best score in the program annals. Wooster's Sunday 315 bounced Saturday's 317 out of a top-five program placement.

Senior Melissa Burtscher placed third at 156, which is tied for the fifth-best 36-hole tournament score in program history. Burtscher opened with an 80 on Saturday and played the back nine of par-72, 5,814-yard Lakeside Golf Club at even par. Burtscher sank a birdie putt on the par-5, 426-yard 18th hole and had seven pars on Lakeside's back nine on Saturday. The senior went 1-under-par on the front nine on Sunday. The putts dropped frequently, with Burtscher draining birdies on the par-5, 432-yard fourth hole and the par-4, 368-yard seventh hole. Burtscher played 12 holes at par or better Sunday, with two more birdies going down on the par-4, 380-yard 11th hole and another on No. 18.

Senior Grace Lindgren posted consecutive 79s for a 158, which matched her collegiate-best 36-hole tournament score. The back nine is where Lindgren found success on Saturday, carding a 2-over-par 38. Lindgren's putter was hot, with birdies going down on the par-4, 377-yard 13th hole and the par-3, 120-yard 16th hole. Lindgren had three birdies on Saturday's scorecard. Two more birdies were in store for Lindgren on Sunday. One of those came on No. 9, bringing Lindgren's front nine total down to 1-over-par.

Junior Ally Siewert rounded out the Scots in the top-five. Siewert was one of three Wooster scorers in the 70s on Sunday. She shot 159 for the tournament after rounds of 81 and 78. Siewert was steady on Sunday's back nine with a birdie and six pars. Overall, Siewert played 11 holes at par or better on Sunday. Other highlights for Siewert included a birdie on the par-3, 90-yard third hole on Saturday.

First-year Abby Haywood opened the tournament with a collegiate-best 78. Haywood was 3-over-par on both nines and played 10 holes at par or better on Saturday. The first-year's round included three birdies. The first came on No. 16, and Haywood dropped to 3-over-par for the back nine with a birdie on No. 18. The third birdie of the day dropped in on the par-4, 337-yard second hole. Haywood followed up the career day with an 82 to finish tied for sixth-place at 160. The lefty's best collegiate stretch spanned holes 15-18 on Sunday, as Haywood was 2-under-par over those four holes with three birdies, including on the par-4, 380-yard 15th hole. Haywood added a four-hole run of pars spanning the seventh through 10th holes.

First-year Morgan Erdmann rounded out Wooster's lineup and made the Scots the lone team in the field to have all lineup entries within the field's top-eight. Erdmann finished at 162 with rounds of 80 and 82. Erdmann sank her first collegiate eagle on the par-5, 426-yard 18th hole for the program's sixth eagle in a competition round. Of note, three of Wooster's active golfers now have made a competitive-round eagle. Erdmann added birdies on No. 4 on Saturday and No. 11 on Sunday.

First-year Liz Hohman competed as an individual and placed 25th at 200.

Otterbein University won the five-team event with a 623. The Cardinals' Emma McGreal was the medalist at 148.

Next, Wooster hosts the Wooster Spring Invitational April 21-22 at Wooster Country Club.
