Scots Continue to Take Program to New Heights During Historic Season

Ally Siewert, Wooster Golf GRANVILLE, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team was right there with three-time defending North Coast Athletic Conference champion Denison University, as the Fighting Scots and Big Red were tied through 15 holes at the Denison Spring Shootout. Denison went on to edge out Wooster 316-324 for runner-up honors in the regular season finale.

A dominant front nine by junior Ally Siewert (2-over-par), first-year Morgan Erdmann (2-over-par), and senior Melissa Burtscher (3-over-par) had the Scots two strokes back of the Big Red at the turn. Siewert, who carded a collegiate-best 76, kept the charge coming by rolling in back-to-back birdies on the par-4, 327-yard 11th hole and the par-5, 423-yard 12th hole at the par-73, 5,714-yard Denison Golf Club. Wooster pulled even with Denison after hole 15, which saw Burtscher drain a birdie on the par-5, 426-yard hole and Erdmann, senior Grace Lindgren, and Siewert all score pars.

Siewert's 76 placed the junior in a tie for runner-up honors. The junior's incredible round was at even par after rolling in the aforementioned birdies. She turned at 2-over-par after a birdie dropped on the par-4, 347-yard ninth hole and played holes eight through 12 at 3-under-par. Siewert was 1-over-par on the back nine and played 12 holes at par or better on the day. Of note, Siewert has moved into a tie with Burtscher for most top-five finishes in a season in program history at eight.

Burtscher's 79 was the seventh-place score. The senior turned at 3-over-par and that is where the score stood after back-to-back pars on the par-5, 455-yard 10th hole and the par-4, 327-yard 11th hole. Burtscher played 12 holes at par or better on Sunday.

Erdmann was as steady as they come at the onset, carding four straight pars. The first-year fell back to even par after converting a birdie on the par-5, 420-yard sixth hole, and even par is where the score stood through eight holes. The first-year finished at 81, which was the eighth-place score.

Lindgren's 88 placed the senior in a tie for 18th. Lindgren dropped in a birdie on the par-4, 233-yard fourth hole and played her most consistent golf when the Scots were fighting to overtake the Big Red. Lindgren went 1-over-par spanning holes 11 through 15.

First-year Paige Nicely debuted in Wooster's lineup with a 91 and placed 21st. The first-year carded the team's third-best back nine with a 5-over-par. Nicely's strong back nine started with a birdie on the par-5, 455-yard 10th hole and the first-year played five holes at par or better on the back nine.

Highlights from Wooster's three individual entries included an eagle for first-year Serena Grenga on the par-5, 420-yard sixth hole.

Ohio Northern University won the five-team event with a 313. The Polar Bears' Grace Honigford ran away with medalist honors, carding a 5-under-par 68 with six birdies in the round.

Next, Wooster competes at the NCAC Championships, hosted at Westfield Country Club's North Course May 3-5.
