The College of Wooster jumped out to an early lead Tuesday
night, but could not overcome a six-goal run later on by host
Washington (Md.) College as the Fighting Scots fell 9-7 during the
teams' women's lacrosse match-up at Chestertown,
Md.
Trailing 2-1 through 20 minutes of play, Wooster (2-1) exploded for
a 4-1 spurt during a 4:36 period late in the first half, which
resulted in the Scots taking a two-goal lead. Washington (4-1)
responded with a tally before the half expired to pull within
5-4.
The first 20 minutes of the second half belonged to the Shorewomen,
who netted five more unanswered goals to pull out to a four-goal
cushion. The Scots made a late rally with scores at the 5:52 and
1:49 marks, but it was not enough.
Carly Carey and Hillary Darragh each registered three-point days
for Wooster, with Carey tossing in two goals and helping out on
another and Darragh scoring once to go with two assists. Like
Carey, Nina Dine contributed two goals.
Washington's Brittany Lambert led all players with four
goals.
In net, Jamie Dannenberg kept the Scots close with 13 saves, while
her counterpart, Amber Madore, had eight, including seven in the
second half.
Wooster concludes its spring break trip at Gwynedd-Mercy College
(3-1) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
