Carly Carey became the 13th player to reach the 100-goal
milestone in College of Wooster women's lacrosse history,
while helping the Fighting Scots to an 11-7 win over St. Vincent
College Wednesday in the teams' season opener at Chuck Noll
Field in Latrobe, Pa.
Carey scored four times – three in the first half and the
fourth just 2:03 into the second – which elevated her career
total to 102 goals.
Despite the senior standout's early outburst, Wooster found
itself in a tight battle with St. Vincent, as the game was tied
2-2, 3-3, 5-5 at halftime, 6-6, and 7-7 more than 10 minutes into
the second. The Scots were able to control the final 20 minutes,
though, as they tossed in four unanswered goals, starting with
Hillary Darragh's tally off a Nina Dine assist.
With it still 8-7 and the clock running under 10 minutes, Carey set
up a key goal, feeding her younger sister, Madison Carey, who
converted the opportunity at the 8:37 mark. It marked the
freshman's first collegiate score, and Dine and Becca
Worthington would go on to tack on insurance tallies.
Carey's five-point outing increases her career total to 126
(102 goals, 24 assists) as she moved up to 12th-place on
Wooster's all-time scoring list. Dine finished with a hat
trick as well as the assist and Worthington posted a two-point day,
recording a helper to go with the aforementioned goal.
The host Bearcats' Liz Louison was part of six scores with
four goals and two assists.
The Scots continue their spring break trip at York (Pa.) College
(2-4) on Saturday afternoon.
