Four Different Scots Record Hat Tricks in 19-10 Win at Gwynedd-Mercy

In the final game of its spring break trip, The College of Wooster's offense came alive as four players registered hat tricks and the Fighting Scots easily dispatched host Gwynedd-Mercy College 19-10 during a women's lacrosse match-up in the Philadelphia area Thursday afternoon.

Wooster (3-1) had averaged just 7.7 goals during the first three games of its East Coast swing, but netted 11 during the opening 30 minutes alone Thursday. The key stretch came late in the half when Wooster scored four times over the final 3:09, transforming a 7-6 lead into a comfortable five-goal bulge at the break.

The Scots continued to dominate play early in the second, putting together a 5-1 run for an insurmountable 16-7 lead.

Nina Dine fueled Wooster's victory, as the sophomore tallied a career-high eight points – three better than her previous best. She scored five goals, including two of the last three in the first half as well as two during the early second-half run, and assisted on three.

The other hat tricks came from Carly Carey, Hillary Darragh, and Becca Worthington. Carey tossed in four goals to go with one assist, while Darragh notched a six-point day – one shy of her career best – on three goals and three assists. Worthington's three goals marked the third hat trick of her career, and also noteworthy, Jess Cleveland added a career-high four-point outing, connecting on goals twice and issuing two assists.

Gwynedd-Mercy (3-2) was paced by Colleen Dellostrett, who had three goals and three assists.

Defensively, Jamie Dannenberg came up with six saves in the win, while Katie Smart also made a strong contribution for the Scots, gathering six groundballs.

Wooster will head to western New York for a pair of non-conference games next weekend.
