The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team scored the
first 10 goals, and 13 of the first 14, during its North Coast
Athletic Conference-opening game with Oberlin College on Thursday
and cruised to an 18-8 victory in Oberlin, Ohio.
Wooster (4-3, 1-0 NCAC) found the back of the net five times within
the first 8:54, including a quick hat trick for Hillary Darragh.
The Fighting Scots continued to control play throughout the opening
half and entered the break with an eventual 10-1 lead.
The score ballooned to 13-1 through the first 10 minutes of the
second half and Wooster eventually secured the 10-goal win.
Darragh finished with a season-high four goals, while sisters Carly
Carey and Madison Carey each recorded a hat trick as well. Carly, a
senior, had three goals, which now puts her in a tie for the team
lead in that category this year (18), and Madison, a freshman,
produced the highest scoring output of her young career with three
goals and an assist.
Also of note, Jess Cleveland connected on two goals and helped out
on another, Amy Denny hit the back of the net twice, Eileen Barrer
and Becca Worthington posted one-goal, one-assist outings, and Nina
Dine assisted on a pair of scores.
On the other side of the field, Scot goalie Jamie Dannenberg made
eight saves, including six in the first half to help build an
insurmountable lead.
Wooster continues league play this Saturday afternoon when it hosts
Kenyon College (7-1, 1-0 NCAC) at 1 p.m.
