WOOSTER, Ohio – Carly Carey, Hillary Darragh, and Taryn
Higgins combined for 13 goals as The College of Wooster rolled past
Allegheny College 17-11 in a North Coast Athletic Conference
contest at Carl Dale Memorial Field on Wednesday.
Wooster (6-3, 3-0 NCAC) never trailed, thanks in part to a
four-goal explosion during the opening 2:27. The first two scores
came from Carey within 72 seconds of play.
Allegheny (4-5, 1-2 NCAC) did make a game of it, going on a
three-goal run to pull within one, still with just 6:33 elapsed off
the clock. A few scoreless minutes finally ensued before the two
teams exchanged goals with just under 20 minutes remaining in the
half.
Holding a 5-4 lead at that point, the Fighting Scots then steadily
pulled away as they outscored the Gators 5-1 the rest of the first
stanza (10-5). Darragh accounted for three of those key goals and
Higgins two.
Wooster carried the momentum over into the second half, building a
double-digit cushion (16-6, 17-7) on a couple of occasions before
Allegheny made it a final six-goal margin.
Darragh led the way with five goals coming on just seven shots and
she contributed an assist as well for a six-point day. Carey and
Higgins scored four goals apiece, with Carey crossing the 150-point
plateau for her career (153) in the process.
Also for the Scots, Nina Dine produced three points with a goal and
two assists and Romy Eberle was her usual standout self in the
backfield while registering six groundballs and three caused
turnovers – both game highs.
Jensen Paterson was a bright spot for the Gators with four goals
and one assist.
Wooster will be at Denison University (3-4, 0-1 NCAC) this Saturday
afternoon.
