Fresh off the heels of a productive 3-1 spring break trip through Pennsylvania and Maryland, the Fighting Scots' women's lacrosse team played two exciting games in western New York, coming out on the short end against Fredonia State University by a 10-9 count in two overtimes on Friday, followed Saturday by a high-scoring 18-13 setback to Nazareth College.

Against Fredonia State, Wooster received a boost from sophomore attacker Nina Dine, who accounted two unassisted goals over the final 8:14 of regulation to deadlock the game at 9-9. After both teams couldn't find the back of the opposition's net during the first overtime, Fredonia's Emily Fink recorded the game-winner 1:12 into the second extra session.

The Blue Devils (4-0) jumped out to a 7-3 halftime lead, closing the half with four unanswered goals during a 15-minute stretch. In the second, the Scots came out of the intermission on fire, notching four unanswered goals in a span of 7:39, including two scores from senior Carly Carey, who poured in a free-position shot, and scored the other on an assist from Dine.           

Offensively, Dine and Carey paced the Wooster attack with a hat trick each, and each tacked on an assist against the Blue Devils.

Saturday's matchup with Nazareth featured an offensive shootout. The Golden Flyers (4-2) broke the game open by scoring six times over a span of 9:33 during the final second of the first and opening minutes of the second half, extending what was a two-goal advantage at 9-7 to 15-7. Fighting back, Wooster scored five of the next seven goals to close within 17-12, including two from junior Jess Cleveland, but that is as close as the visitors could manage to get in the five-goal loss.

For the second-straight game, Dine led the Fighting Scot offense with four scores and two assists for six points, while Cleveland and senior Taryn Higgins finished with three and two goals, respectively. Higgins racked up a pair of assists as well.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Jamie Dannenberg played every minute in goal for Wooster, racking up eight saves against Fredonia State and seven more against Nazareth.

Next up for the Scots is their North Coast Athletic Conference opener when they travel to Oberlin College (0-4, 0-0 NCAC) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
