Carey Scores Six Goals for Second Time This Week, This Time in 15-10 Victory Over Adrian

The College of Wooster's Carly Carey produced a career-high seven-point game, scoring six goals for the second time in four days, while leading the Fighting Scots to a 15-10 non-conference victory at Adrian College Saturday in women's lacrosse action.

Carey, who scored six times for the first time in her career during Wednesday's key 20-5 win over league rival Ohio Wesleyan University, picked up where she left off as she had a hat trick within the first 12:41 on Saturday. That was part of a game-opening 7-1 run for Wooster (9-3).

Late in the half, Adrian (9-4) countered by converting a free-position attempt, only to see the Fighting Scots explode for four scores during the final 3:33, taking a commanding 11-2 advantage into the break.

The Bulldogs, a second-year varsity program, rallied in the second half by accounting for three unanswered goals early on and six of the first eight to pull within 13-8 with 4:50 remaining. Nina Dine finished off any hopes of an Adrian comeback with a goal 30 seconds later, and about two minutes after that, Carey netted her sixth of the day en route to the win.

Carey's big week has vaulted her season total to 47 points, including 40 goals, and in the process, she moved up three spots to No. 8 on the school's all-time scoring list at 168 points (138 goals, 30 assists). Hillary Darragh and Dine each notched hat tricks on Saturday, with all three of Darragh's goals coming in the first half, while the other multi-point scorer was Becca Worthington with one goal and one assist.

Defensively, Jamie Dannenberg was steady as usual, gaining credit for 11 saves on 29 Bulldog shots, and also of note, Taryn Higgins had three draw controls, two groundballs, and one goal.

Wooster is off until next Saturday when it hosts North Coast Athletic Conference opponent Wittenberg University (7-3, 2-1 NCAC) at 2 p.m.
