Carly Carey Will Represent Wooster in All-Star Contest

The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association recently released the rosters for the IWLCA/Under-Armour North-South Senior All-Star Games for NCAA Div. I, II, and III, and College of Wooster graduate Carly Carey (Northfield, Minn., Academy at Charlemont), was chosen for the Div. III north squad. The games will take place this Saturday, June 13 at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa., as part of the Champions' Cup tournament. Forty women comprise the teams for the Div. III game, which will take place at noon.

Carey, recently named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, picked up her third all-region honor for her work on the field. The Fighting Scots' most potent offensive threat this year, she poured in a team- and career-high 53 goals. She finished tied for second on the team with 12 assists for 65 total points, while starting all 16 games. Carey tallied a hat trick 11 times this season, highlighted by back-to-back six-goal games against Ohio Wesleyan University on April 15 and Adrian College on April 18, and also collected 18 groundballs during her final season.

For her career in the old gold and black, Carey finished as the eighth all-time leading scorer in program history, racking up 186 points on 151 goals and 35 assists.

As a team, Carey helped lead Wooster to the top seed of the league tournament via a 6-0 regular season NCAC record. The Fighting Scots then knocked off the No. 4 seed, Denison University, 13-10 in the semis and second-seed Kenyon College 11-6 in the finals. That gave Wooster the NCAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Div. III Tournament, in which it lost a first-round game at St. John Fisher College 17-12, capping the Scots' season at 12-4.
