The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team allowed six unanswered goals during a stretch in the first half, allowing State University of New York at Fredonia to build a 9-2 halftime lead and steadily pull away by a final margin of 13-5 on Saturday afternoon at Fredonia, N.Y.

The Blue Devils (5-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead just over eight minutes into the action, but Madison Carey and Nina Dine each chipped in goals to pull Wooster (1-3) within 3-2. At that juncture, Fredonia State went on a 6-0 scoring run to close out of the half, giving them a 9-2 cushion at the break.

It appeared that Wooster was going to make a run early in the second half, as Eileen Barrer and Clare Nelson-Johnson scored back-to-back goals to bring the Scots within striking distance (9-4), but that was the most they were able to cut into the deficit.

Carey added another score late to lead Wooster with two goals.

In goal, Shawna Ferris was peppered with shots, but was able to make 14 saves, just one shy of the career-high she set earlier this season. Her counterpart, Casey Chiesa, made seven saves.

Wooster will look to bounce back when they battle University of Michigan's club team Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
