The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team traded leads with Saint Vincent College all afternoon, but in the end, it was Madison Carey and Eileen Barrer who scored key goals in the second half to push the Fighting Scots past the Bearcats 12-10 in non-conference action at Latorbe, Pa.

Wooster (2-3) and Saint Vincent (0-2) played a closely contested first half, where the score was knotted on four different occasions, including at 7-7 just minutes before the break. With 38 seconds remaining in the half, Saint Vincent's Annie Roslonski beat the 'keeper to give her squad a slight 8-7 edge at the midway point.

Coming out of halftime, the Scots put together a three-goal scoring spurt in just 1:22 of play that provided them with their biggest lead of the afternoon. It started a little over a minute into the second half, when Barrer found the back of the net, and then exactly one minute later she scored again to give Wooster the lead (9-8). Finally, only 22 seconds later, Carey added on another tally on an assist from Nina Dine to put the Scots ahead 10-8.

At that juncture, the scoring pace slowed down, with only Wooster's Barrer and Saint Vincent's Liz Basile-Louison adding goals over the next 20-plus minutes of action. Still down two scores (11-9), Basile-Louison scored her fifth goal of the afternoon to pull the Bearcats within one (11-10) with 5:01 remaining in regulation.

That was as close as Saint Vincent got to retaking the lead, though, as Carey dropped in her team-high fourth goal on a free position shot with just over two minutes to play, giving Wooster the insurance it need to escape with the victory.

Several other Scots scored during the game's back-and-forth first half, including Katie Smart, Jaqueline Wallat, Cassie Greenbaum, and Dine.

Leading Wooster statistically was Carey with four goals, while Barrer added three, and Smart chipped in two scores and an assist.

In goal, Shawna Ferris made a pair of saves, which both came in critical spots in the second half.

Wooster will look to carry its momentum into Tuesday's home game against College of Mount St. Joseph (1-4) at 5 p.m.
